I'm Melissa Meman of Melismatic - welcome! Handcrafting jewelry and rosaries is a passion for me and my goal as an artist is to inspire some of that passion in others through my designs.
All of my one-of-a-kind, limited edition, and custom designs are handcrafted solely by me utilizing an eclectic array of materials and techniques. I love semi-precious gemstones, art beads (lampwork, polymer clay, ceramic), Czech and Austrian glass, organics such as coral and pearls, and most of all - metal and wire. I give careful consideration to color and textural combinations.
I am always trying to incorporate new techniques into my designs. Most are created with a "wrapped" link style, utilizing sterling silver, gold-filled, bronze, brass and copper wire. I absolutely love this style, not only for its beauty and versatility, but also for its strength and durability. I occasionally use beading wire and crimps for strung pieces as well.
Melismatic Rosaries
While the traditional Catholic rosary form is a more strict design in that there are required components, I strive to bring creativity and freshness, along with the same high standards as my jewelry pieces. They incorporate wrapped wire links, and as such, are much more durable than traditional single-loop rosaries. They are beautiful and durable enough to become cherished heirlooms!
My "handmade" journey began many years ago in a small southern town. I am the youngest of five children and we grew up with our mother making most of our clothes (and many other things) by hand. Our father was a house-painter, but also a farmer and we lived off the land as much as possible. My sisters and I have always been involved in some craft or project for as long as I remember...I think my first endeavor was crocheting which I still love! Currently, I live in Maryland with my husband and son.
